McCook Community College’s new volleyball coach has accepted additional responsibilities to take on the vacant head softball position for the college – with an assist from a long-time McCook High School coach.
Michelle Reiners, who accepted the volleyball position last month, has accepted the softball post with Dale Lortz to serve as MCC’s assistant coach.
“We are looking forward to having them both associated with the program,” said Michele Gill, Area Dean of Student Life. “We know the program is in good hands.”
Reiners has been with the Ed Thomas YMCA since July of 2003 with the Live Y’er After School Program as well as serving as a referee, umpire and official.
In the McCook Public School system, she’s taught physical education, health, and was a special education paraprofessional. She also served as assistant softball coach since 2005. Since August of 2006, she’s been co-head coach of the Seventh Grade Girls basketball team and coach of the Seventh Grade Girls Track team
Reiners takes over a volleyball team that finished with a 10-34 mark in 2007 and a softball team that is coming off its most successful season – a 30-win season this spring under Tyrone Robinson, who left MCC for the head softball post at York College.
Lortz retired from MHS in the spring of 2008 after 10 seasons as Bison softball coach and 35 years of teaching in McCook.
