MCC Names New Volleyball Coach

by Brent Cobb
Michelle Reiners, who has lived in McCook since 2003, takes over the helm of the Lady Indian volleyball program. She received her B.S. from Chadron State College in May of 2000 and has been teaching in the McCook Public School system since 2005 and has been a familiar part of the McCook athletic scene since her arrival in 2003, including a stint coaching the McCook Red Crush Volleyball team of the United States Volleyball Association.

“We are very excited to be able to get someone with Michelle’s knowledge of the game,” said MCC Athletic Director Chet DeVaughn. “We feel she’s going to do a good job.”

Upon her graduation from CSC, Reiners taught in Chadron, Tolleson, Ariz., and Osborn Public School in Phoenix, before coming to McCook in 2003. She was also employed as a personal trainer/fitness formula retail store manager for Bally Total Fitness in Phoenix.
Michelle has been with the Ed Thomas YMCA since July of 2003 with the Live Y’er After School Program as well as serving as a referee, umpire and official.

In the McCook Public School system, she’s taught physical education, health, and was a special education paraprofessional. She also served as assistant softball coach since 2005. Since August of 2006, she’s been co-head coach of the Seventh Grade Girls basketball team and coach of the Seventh Grade Girls Track team

“We look forward to her leadership for our returning and incoming volleyball players, and wish them much success in the coming season and beyond,” said Michele Gil, Area Dean of Student Life. “Coach Reiners brings to the table many new and exciting ideas and energetic leadership for our student-athletes.”

Reiners takes over a team that finished with a 10-34 mark in 2007.
